Rutherford’s Adventures in Cambridge

We were proud to stage our first Grand Arcade punting display on the 25th April 2018, timed to fit with the Grand Arcade Student Night. Luckily for us the Grand Arcade reserved a prime spot space for us at the main entrance to the shopping centre.

We carefully brought in a brand new punt complete with cushions, blankets and a picnic hamper. The punt was perched on a Rutherford’s blue carpet and displayed behind exclusive roped barriers.

How did it go?

The the Grand Arcade staff were extremely helpful and everything went as planned. It was a 5am start for us and a late finish at 9pm because we had to move the punt outside of the normal hours for Grand Arcade.

There was great teamwork on the day from Rutherford’s, and everyone involved was proud to represent our brand. It’s very true that pushing a punt past John Lewis was certainly a unique experience, far flung from our usual journeys.

The team were happy to answer questions on the day and could arrange future punting tours. We gave our free drinks and branded Rutherford’s gifts, which were very popular.

What about the competition?

We organised a unique competition to win a Champagne Punting Experience for up to 6 people.

Hopefuls simply had to snap a picture in or around our punt and post it to Instagram on the day. There were some really amazing entries and it was truly hard to choose a winner!

Lucky lady Cecily Marsh snapped up the sparkling prize and will be heading out along the College Backs with some lucky friends later in the year.

What was the feedback?

The visitors and shoppers in Grand Arcade constantly stopped to chat to our team and many expressed pleasure at seeing the spectacle of a full sized punt in a shopping centre. There’s nothing more Cambridge that that!

It was tons of fun and we’ll be back again in future. Catch us next time for some punting frolics in the Grand Arcade!
